In the center of Delft, on Koornmarkt, stands the residential house of Paul Tetar van Elven (1823 – 1896): painter, copyist, drawing teacher at the Polytechnic School (now TU Delft), and passionate collector. For over thirty years, he inhabited this stately canal house, which still vividly reflects his presence in every detail. Tetar left his house, belongings, and collections to the community under the condition that it would become a museum, which eventually happened in 1927.
